Unfortunately, it is a sad reflection of today’s society that there are many families that do not have enough blankets to keep their kids warm through the winter months. Howick Rotary with the support of the Howick Village Association will be collecting clean warm blankets from the community during the month of May. There are 3 collection points for the blankets; Howick Information Centre, Howick Village Optometrist in Picton Street and Grasslands in Moore Street. Once collected the distribution of the blankets to families in need is coordinated by local charities including Stand Children Services, All Saints Anglican Church, and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

The project which Howick Rotary started in 2021 is well supported with both individual families and local sewing groups getting behind it. The club is hoping the community’s enthusiasm for the project last year, when an estimated 2000 blankets were collected, will flow over into this year
