Howick Rotary had its annual "Changeover" dinner at the Howick Club last Tuesday at which the new team for the 2023/24 was officially installed. The evening was attended by District 9920 officials, honorary members, active members and partners.
Current President Madeleine East handed the chain of office over to incoming President for 2023/24 Malcolm Pascoe following a short presentation of the clubís activities over the two years she had held the office. Following Covid during which some of the projects of the club had to be postponed it was decided that the 2021/22 board would continue on for 2022/23. Madeleine commented "it was good to return to a normal year over the last 12 months with major projects such as Bookarama, the Fun Walk & Run event and Blankets 4 Kids 4 Winter as well as a host of other community, environmental and young people projects getting back on track".
Malcolm said "he is looking forward to working with the new Board and continuing the current projects as well as looking at support for a new charity." He also mentioned a new spin off project 'Bookarama for Kids' which is running from July 4 through July 6. The project which was an idea that came from Frith Jenkins is the sale of second-hand books to kids in the first week of the school holidays to encourage kids to read as well as raising money for community projects. 'Bookarama for Kids' is a combined effort from Howick Village Optometrist, the Howick Village Association and Howick Rotary. The sale is held between 10:00am and 3:00pm each day.
